Cues that count

Cues that count πŸ€“ Cues can help so much! They are ways to help us remember how to do things, sometimes helping us to perform tasks more effectively. We can take cues from so many people too depending on what the situation is. Starting from childhood, we would have had cues from parents or relatives or guardians to remember how to do things we learned for the first time so that we wouldn’t forget next time! Time can be so precious these days and without some kind of planning, the days can be done before we know it so we can use cues here. Sometimes when performing a task or workout for example, we may have been guilty of ‘going through the motions’- doing something but not really that effectively. Take a workout for example-coaches can give cues to be able to help visualize the exercise in order to perform it most effectively and getting better results as opposed to doing things wrong just for the sake of it but not getting desired results. So, from mentors in whatever aspect of our l...

Life sandbagger? (original post Nov 6th, 2021)

Is this you? 🧐 Firstly, a sandbagger can be described as someone who says they can only do things to a certain level but can actually perform more! Sounds like a crafty tactic in some sporting event maybe or during a workout competition or during a work task where some sandbagging is done and then the real abilities appear! 😦But sandbagging can be a way of time wasting! πŸ™„Life has so many obstacles thrown in our way as it is! (Photos show where I’m at right now-post scaphoid break, op done, 6 weeks of cast on so splint time for 6 weeks and then onto mobility 😡😡‍πŸ’« Long process but adapting while still taking care to have full recovery) When we can, we should always bring our A game-or at least try! Trying and failing can be a learning curve at least but sandbagging doesn’t seem to be something to yield skills or experience in a positive way. This can apply in many aspects of life-education, career, friendships, relationships, abilities. Take nothing for granted and with sandbaggin...

Walk this way (original post Oct 24th, 2021)

Walk this way πŸ‘£ There’s a whole list of health benefits that walking provides but we can also look at the other ‘why’. 🧐 People have their own versions from distance, time, pace and route. These can all change too depending on mood, time available and even weather being a factor. Why people walk can show that it’s worth giving it a try if it’s something you haven’t done. Some people walk listening to music or podcasts so it can be energizing, calming or educational. Other times people have none of these and only take time with their thoughts and external factors. These can be times that people need to make sense of problems they may be facing or decisions they need to make. The external factors can be a sense of distraction or relief by interacting with others or witnessing positive activities. Walking can be a time to have company from friends or family and share bonding times with them making new memories and happily reminiscing on old ones. So we can see that leaving all the healt...

Climb over consistency (original post Oct 5th, 2021)

Is being consistent bad? 🧐 It’s so common to hear people say that being consistent is key πŸ”‘ What does it mean? One way to explain it is to say it’s to be unchanging over time. Unless we are at peak level of perfection in something, then why would we want to settle? Yes, it might be easier to go through the motions unchanged without any challenge or upset. It’s safe to do that too right? Staying in the easy lane, playing it safe choosing the vanilla ice cream 🍦🀣 But why not throw a chocolate flake in that ice cream 🍦 sometimes? See where our consistent nature can be changed into something better that we may have never knew existed? Take our abilities and use them to their best. Climb over that consistency! Keep the good levels going (being consistent can reap rewards along the way too!) but always with sights to get better and not stay the same πŸ™ŒπŸ‘ŠπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘  #consistent   #goals #motion   #motivation   #improve   #success   #hardwork #determination

Self defence & situational awareness (original post Sep 30th, 2021)

Who would benefit from self defense and situational awareness knowledge? 🧐 Why not everyone? Recent stats here in Ireland for recorded crimes including sexual offenses and assaults in the last year are over 22,000 for example. Many may be surprised that the highest demographic for this is males of ages 30-44. Over the years I’ve had the fortune of learning self/defense skills under some extremely experienced teachers while practicing the martial art of Taekwondo. Paired with these skills and my recent qualification in personal training, I have seen how valuable these qualities can be to all of us in our every day lives. As some of you may also have been witness to, life throws different challenges our way so it’s up to us to be prepared to adapt and face them head on with the right mind and body preparedness. These are habits that can become part of daily life activities and are ones that I would be happy to share with others. We have heard how and where these senseless attacks happen...

Best intentions & motivation (original post Sep 27th, 2021)

Best intentions and motivation πŸ‘Š   Such a great feeling to start a new day and new week πŸ‘Š Great workout πŸ‹️‍♀️ with the help of a great friend and coach and the drive to want to push myself but also remember that recovery is of upmost importance right now! One handed life is my reality! πŸ˜– It made me think how being surrounded by good people and having great motivation to improve things can help so much. We can easily stop and list off all of the negatives we have going on and let those be reasons for us to just sit back and waste time and be so non productive. Taking myself for example-broken hand, no work offers-these could be reasons for getting so down and not wanting to do anything. Maybe it’s easier but I’ve learned that things don’t get handed to a lot of us and we have to try harder than others maybe to get the best results but when things then do work out for the best-the feeling of accomplishment is even more sweet 😌  #ignorethehaters #Motivation   #jobhunti...

Adapting (original post Sep 23rd, 2021)

Sometimes, we can have the best plans and routines in place but then they are thrown a spanner! I’ll be the first to admit, I work best with plans and structure but I guess I’ve also got working in the aviation industry for so long to thank for having to adapt when we least expect. Recently, I’ve been trying to improve my fitness levels and learn so much about that industry after recently receiving my qualification in it. Being hit with an accident of breaking my wrist a few weeks ago (during exercise in college might I add 🀦‍♀️) was definitely not the setback I wanted. But I’ve been trying to adapt ever since while waiting for the op. Then yesterday thinking I was just in for pre op check, turned into the actual op! 😟 So now it’s adapting on a different level. I like to be so independent with everything so getting help while im one handed isn’t the best ✋Also, having a further setback in my own fitness development for now isn’t a good feeling. Even not working has me having feels of...

Take the first step (original post Sep 17th, 2021)

Today I was reminded in a random way about how we should try not be overwhelmed thinking about so many things and be panicked 😱 I’m guilty of both big time! 😣 Sometimes, there’s fear about starting something new and being anxious about the unknown. Sometimes, we lack motivation about getting some exercise in and don’t even want to start. Sometimes, we are trying to find the right words to reconnect with someone or to build a connection with someone new. Whatever the situation, we can apply the same principle-take the first step πŸ‘£ We might have the best time with taking on that new position at a job, we might have the best workout, the best connection may be the result of that conversation. If that all happens, then great! πŸ‘ But if not, then that’s okay too. The win can be the trying and then getting the chance to readjust and go again! Be in motion whatever it’s for! 😁  #try   #dontgiveup #takingchances   #stepbystep   #outofcomfortzone #reconnect   #newbe...

Decisions, decisions (original post Sep 5th, 2021)

Decisions, decisions πŸ§πŸ€¨πŸ’πŸ’‘πŸ‘€ How do you know you are making the right decisions?! We are faced with choices about so many things daily! From deciding on what to eat or drink to possible life changing choices.  I believe that with different decisions, we need to be mindful of those we care about but also find our happy 😁😁😁 Asking opinions of others can help but if the advice comes from a good place too! Ultimately, we are the ones creating our own path, the ones who are carving out that road. We decide who we want in our lives by keeping strong relationships with family and friends or building new ones by reaching out and creating a new network. 🧍‍♀️🧍🧍‍♂️πŸ‘«  That’s the beauty of being faced with different decisions too. Pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones can lead us to decisions we would never make if we stayed in the one lane. We can decide along the way what parts of the new adventures we would like to keep to add to the good we are already blessed with. So,...

Imposter syndrome & crossroads (original post Aug 23rd, 2021)

When faced with crossroads πŸ—Ί in our lives, many thoughts πŸ’ can start racing and can have some negative results. 😞 Imposter syndrome when researched has been described in many different ways. Some common ones are having feelings of self doubt, thinking we are not worthy of successes we have achieved or that we are not competent as others may claim we are. Having imposter syndrome can make the person feel they are not good enough and that any successes were not down to them but because of luck from external factors. Having this fear and self doubt can lead to missed opportunities by casting shadows over bright skies 🌌 that are around us waiting to be explored! We need to take the blinkers off here and celebrate πŸŽ‰ even the smallest of wins along the way and own any achievements gained. Think of each one as a stepping stone onto the next path. Maybe it’s not our initial desired one but we should try to be open to what’s ahead. Think about it-if we weren’t open before now-we may have ...

Pick your progress (original post Jun 28th, 2021)

Progress for everyone is so different. Comparison to others can be negative if we look at them wishing we were similar but not getting to where they are. There are so many variables but that’s the beauty. Be you! Celebrate πŸŽ‰ your progress for you. And it’s in everything we do-one better food choice today than last week, reaching out and talk to that person we didn’t have the confidence to before, being able to lift that extra couple of kgs in an exercise (if you are in Dublin, get to  @ffsgyms  for the best help with that!) Progress can be so obviously noticeable sometimes but we can also pass over and disregard the mini wins! They will all add up into that bigger celebration bubble! πŸ˜† Recently, I’ve done all 3 and maybe other little things and it was only today that I reminded myself to give a lil ‘well done’ to me! (Thanks  @carlosfer94  for pushing away from donut weights 🀣) Doing these things aren’t always easy-actually again for me-they were all so tough in t...

Aesthetic aims or healthy habits - snapshot versus slideshow (original post May 11, 2021)

I took 2 photos this morning a few seconds apart of my stomach area. Firstly, why? Well-I do believe that photos help to see any progress or regress on a journey. But it made me think πŸ€” what are our goals as we do it? Let’s stick with the stomach area-would it be to have the most well defined abs for example? Of course-so many athletes have physiques we can only dream of being anywhere close to! But then there are so many others who are showing how lean they are while taking photos in a certain light or at a particular angle and only if it they think it’s good. What about all of the ‘non lean’ days they had? How did they feel while getting that photo opportunity-did their sleep, health, relationships or moods suffer? I just feel that daily healthy habits should be most important over anything. Yes, having an aesthetic goal is great! It’s one reason why we can make these healthy choices but once it’s not the ultimate tunnel vision. And to portray only good to everyone online to gain k...
